Dr Divya Kannan has been a doctor for 18 years now and a GP in Australia for 13 years. She has worked in various teaching roles in universities and in research positions. She chose to be a GP as she is passionate about primary care and prevention for the whole family and has been a GP in NSW and NT. She has lived in Darwin on and off for 11 years. She enjoys teaching/mentoring junior doctors and has been working in Mediclinic for more than 3 years since its inception.

What is Personal Information and why do we collect it?

Personal Information is information or an opinion that identifies an individual. Examples of Personal Information we collect includes: names, addresses, email addresses, Medicare details, insurance details, phone and facsimile numbers.

This Personal Information is obtained in many ways including information provided by you on our patient registration forms, by other healthcare providers in form of referrals, interviews, correspondence received by other healthcare providers, by telephone and facsimile, by email and from third parties (e.g. parents/ guardians/ carers).

We collect your Personal Information for the primary purpose of providing our services (Medical) to you, providing information to allied health professional for further treatment/ second opinion/ review. We may also use your Personal Information for secondary purposes (e.g. creating referrals) closely related to the primary purpose, in circumstances where you would reasonably expect such use or disclosure. We do contact our patients via SMS reminders. You may unsubscribe from our SMS reminders lists at any time by contacting us in writing.

When we collect Personal Information we will, where appropriate and where possible, explain to you why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it.

Sensitive Information

Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or opinion about such things as an individual's racial or ethnic origin, religious beliefs, criminal record or health information.

  • With your consent; or where required or authorised by law.

Right Care Medical will not charge any fee for your access request, but may charge an administrative fee for providing a copy of your Personal Information.

In order to protect your Personal Information we may require identification from you before releasing the requested information.

It is an important to us that your Personal Information is up to date. We will take reasonable steps to make sure that your Personal Information is accurate, complete and up-to-date.
